7 Traits You Need To Succeed

1. You need Passion

The first thing you need is passion. Passion is your driving force, the reason why you wake up every day with the desire to push on. It's like fuel that provides the energy to keep going. It is what motivates you to find out what you need to do and how to do it differently. Passion makes you fight for your dream.

Are you passionate about what you do? Or have the demands and distractions of life dampened your passion? If your answer is no, then you need to reassess your current situation. It's time to reignite your passion.

2. You need Confidence

What you need to succeed apart from passion, is confidence. You have to believe in yourself first before you can convince others to believe in you. There will be many occasions where you won't be as sure as you think you should be. At those times, you can only do your best, but you can't afford to allow fear to stop you.

Confidence is taking action. What have you done to achieve your dreams lately? If you are waiting for the perfect timing, it will never come. Therefore you need to do what you can now. More opportunities will open as you take action.

You have to believe in yourself first before you can convince others to believe in you.

3. You need to Initiate and Complete tasks

You can't succeed at anything if you don't start and you won't achieve success if you fail to see it through to the end. Your dream stays a dream if you don't initiate or launch it.

For some, launching is not the problem. In fact, you have started many projects, but you are yet to walk through the process until you succeed. Have the discipline to follow through with what you start. Setting a deadline increases the chances for you completing your project, so set one!

How many projects have you thought about but you have failed to start or how many have you started and abandoned? It is time to follow through with your dream.

Launch your business, pursue your dream career, and continue until you succeed. Don't start and stop.

4. You need to Prioritize

You can't do all things at one time. You may have many ideas, but you need to prioritize what needs to be done now and focus on them. If you find yourself with little or no time, and you are far from achieving your dream, then it is time to re-evaluate what you are doing and in what order.

What you need to succeed if you are overwhelmed but underachieving is to set your priorities right. Don't take more than you can handle and learn to play to your strength. Don't be sucked into doing other people's ideas and dreams.  Stick to your dreams and how you can realize them.

5. You can't be too afraid to Fail.

My mentor once told me that it's better to try and fail than not to try at all. If you fail to try because you are afraid of failing, you are guaranteed to fail. You can't be successful without trying, and that comes with a chance of failing.

Are you afraid of failing and is that stopping you? That makes you normal! Quit hiding behind your fears and get set to work. There's no success without its share of trials and failures. Rising from the failure makes you a stronger and successful person at the end of the day. Here a few of Richard Branson's favorite quotes on the importance of failure which we can all take a cue from.

So yes you will have many setbacks, but you will overcome them if you keep going. You will learn from them and it will make you stronger and better. You may even discover a treasure like the Post-It note.

6. You need to keep Improving

What do you do when you see your dreams materializing? You keep improving. You want to remain relevant to your time, or you will fail. The greatest misdeed you can do to yourself is to think your service is unique and different therefore there's no need to be innovative. Innovation means improvement, so always think of how you can improve and stand out to meet current needs and future demands.

You must always strive to be better. Even if you are still working on how to break through in your business or career, always keep an eye out on how you can be better. Don't stick your head in the mud thinking your idea is the best and it can't be better.

7. You need Perseverance

Lastly, you need perseverance. Quitting should never be an option no matter how bad things are. Yes, you may have to reinvent or try another approach. However, what you need to succeed when things get though is perseverance. The willpower to keep keeping on and fighting to achieve success.

Calvin Coolidge the 30th president of the United States said, "Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent."

What will your story be?

JK Rowling was rejected twelve times before she got her breakthrough hence we have the Harry Porter story today. What would her story be if she had given up the tenth time, or even the eleventh time?

Are you still asking for what you need to succeed? Do you doubt yourself or hide behind your fears? Whatever excuse you have is just an excuse. You either have results or excuses.

The great thing is that what you need to succeed is within you. Start from where you are right now. Pursue your dreams, finish what you start and never give up.

The Last Word

Don't let the fear of failure stop you and don't be afraid to fail!

Micheal Jordan said "I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. Twenty-six times I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."
